Christchurch to Christchurch South Island

Day 1:

We pick you up in Christchurch and make our way to either the town of Franz Josef or Fox Glacier which are home to some of the most accessible glaciers in the world. You have the opportunity to experience an incredible glacier adventure at either Franz Josef Glacier or Fox Glacier; you can get up close to the ice with a guided glacier hike, a heli-hike or just enjoy an incredible air sightseeing tour with or without snow landings. You can even experience New Zealand’s highest tandem skydive and enjoy the wonder of the West Coast’s beauty with its glaciers, snow capped mountains, rainforest and stunning ocean all while experiencing the thrill and adrenaline pumping free fall. If you choose to stay in Franz Josef, after a long day you could unwind and relax at Glacier Hot Pools which are surrounded by beautiful rainforest. You have the choice of private pools for a unique and romantic experience away from the crowds or if you really want to relax how does a spa and massage sound? Or after a day spent at Fox Glacier you can take a torch and go on a short walk through some lush rainforest to find some stunning glow worm grottos alongside the track. If we have time we could take a trip to see the stunning Lake Matheson, one of the most photographed lakes in New Zealand as it is famous for its mirror-like reflections of Mount Cook and Mount Tasman on clear days. You have the choice of accommodation in Franz Josef or Fox Glacier.

Day 2:

We depart the glaciers and head along the beautiful west coast which the drive in itself should be an attraction as the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Along the way you will see diverse landscapes from rainforests to stunning lakes and mountains. We then drive through Haast where you can get out and stretch your legs with an easy five minute walk to see the spectacular Thunder Creek Falls. We then head past the World Heritage listed Mt Aspiring National Park and continue towards Queenstown where we drive over The Crown Ranges which is the highest main road in New Zealand and offers some truly incredible views. Along the way we stop in the small resort town of Cardrona and visit the iconic Cardrona Hotel either for a look around and a photo opportunity or for a coffee and bite to eat. We also make a stop in the historic gold mining town of ArrowTown. Whether you want to explore its great outdoors or browse its shops and museum or relax over a delicious meal, the choice is yours. If you are a golfer, then the golf course at Millbrook Resort is a must play! It is one of the most scenic golf courses in the world and is also a championship course. Surrounded by majestic mountains and situated on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu we arrive in Queenstown, our premier four season lake and alpine destination. With its stunning scenery and wide range of activities it offers a perfect mix of both action and relaxation. You’ll shortly see why Queenstown is known as the adventure capital of New Zealand. There’s snowboarding and skiing in winter, and activities ranging from jet boating, bungy jumping, river rafting, horse trekking, skydiving, paragliding, hang gliding to even hot air ballooning for you to enjoy all year round. A must see Queenstown attraction is the Skyline Gondola which offers absolutely breathtaking views overlooking Queenstown. There are plenty of things to enjoy at the top including the award winning cuisine at the scenic Stratosfare restaurant and bar, a Maori cultural experience witnessing a Haka being performed, two thrilling luge tracks, paragliding, AJ Hackett's Bungy and Swing, and if you go up after dark you can have an amazing stargazing experience as it provides an unbelievably clear view of the night sky. You have the opportunity to cruise Lake Wakatipu aboard the iconic steamship the TSS Earnslaw to experience some of Queenstown’s most spectacular alpine scenery while also exploring this 103 year old steamship. If you’d like more than just a cruise you can add on a visit to Walter Peak High Country Farm for a taste of New Zealand’s farming lifestyle. Here you can take a guided farm tour, go on a horse trek, and have a lovely barbecue lunch or dinner. You can also take a helicopter flight to expose breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu and the stunning Queenstown region. If you want to witness a true slice of paradise then we can take you on the spectacular drive to Glenorchy which sits at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu. If you like you can explore the beautiful scenery Glenorchy has to offer by horseback, jet boat, kayak or even by air either on a scenic flight or experience the thrill of a skydive. Any Lord of the Rings fans? Glenorchy has been the backdrop for many of the trilogy’s key scenes and you can take a scenic guided tour to explore some of these locations and gain a great insight about the filming stories and secrets. Day 3 & 4:

Day 5:

We leave Queenstown and travel north to Mount Cook, home to the highest mountain in New Zealand and sits within the Mount Cook National Park which has been awarded prestigious UNESCO World Heritage status and is an incredibly beautiful place to visit. Here we can take you to The Sir Edmund Hillary Centre, which will provide you with the history of Mount Cook, especially the climbing history as this is a tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the world’s greatest explorers. You’ll be highly entertained in the custom designed-theatre which is the world’s only theatre that has 2D, 3D and a Digital Dome Planetarium all within the same area.
Mount Cook National Park is home to some of the best mountain and glacial scenery in New Zealand and offers a range of incredible flight seeing opportunities. You can take a helicopter or ski plane ride and fly alongside the breathtaking Southern Alps and experience the most incredible views as well as the unique thrill of landing on an actual glacier. If you really want to get up close then try a heli hike where you experience the breathtaking views by helicopter before landing and spending 2 hours trekking through the mountains. During the winter you can try heli skiing which involves taking a scenic flight to then spend the day skiing the Tasman, which is New Zealand's longest glacier and is a truly unique experience. There are many other ways to enjoy what the beautiful mountains and glaciers have to offer, just let us know what you prefer. Other options include; kayaking or boat trips that allow you to get up close and personal with stunning icebergs and glaciers, a unique 4WD and Argo adventure which is an 8 wheel all-terrain vehicle and is perfect for exploring the rugged and beautiful terrain, there are also numerous walks and hikes available that are suitable for all ages and abilities.
